MECHANICAL ENGINEER (static equipment in design)

Education and work experience:

Higher education (University degree or higher) in mechanical area and not less than 5 years of work experience as Mechanical Engineer (static equipment in design, fabrication, installation, repairs and maintenance support).

Main functions:

• Provision of integrity and technical authority assurance of process plant and machinery design in the Karachaganak field.
• Engineering design of changes and additions to machinery and plant.
• Ensurance of high quality, cost-effective designs and reports in a timely manner.
• Complete assigned work on time to meet KPO schedules. The work will include: investigations, surveys, feasibility studies, calculations, simulations, conceptual design, detailed design, production of drawings, engineering reports and scopes of work, cost estimation, equipment and material specification and procurement.
• Supervise mechanical engineering work assigned to external design institutes and engineering companies, to maintain the progress and quality of this work.
• Report progress of all assigned work to Lead Mechanical and Piping Engineer.
• Participate in the risk assessment and hazard and operability studies of designs.
• Perform peer and inter-discipline checks on work by engineers within and outside Engineering and Technical Authority Department.
• Ensure compliance of assigned mechanical engineering work with the terms of the design brief or technical assignment and applicable specifications, codes and standards.
• Ensure the selection of cost-effective designs and materials, considering operating costs and standardization of equipment.
• Control technical compliance of purchased plant, machinery and associated materials.
• Approve technical suitability of plant, machinery and materials and supervise acceptance testing of purchased machinery.
• Provide mechanical engineering support to the teams constructing and commissioning the modified or new plant.
• Study best domestic and international mechanical engineering practice for use in design.
• Specify and request the correct materials for the construction of the designs. Raise purchase requisitions for material and equipment.
• Provide preliminary cost estimates for proposed changes and additions.
• Provide Technical Authority assurance in line with Technical Authority Framework.

Necessary knowledge and skills:

• intermediate (B1) English level is an advantage on this role;
• onshore oil and gas upstream facilities;
• engineering practice for project concept selection, FEED study, detailed design follow-on engineering and closeout;
• machinery and plant installations in the oil and gas industry;
• pressure vessel design and tank design;
• heat exchanger design;
• pump sizing and specification;
• mechanical theory and its practical implementation;
• RoK and international codes, regulations and standards relating to mechanical engineering;
• the latest developments and current best practice in mechanical engineering;
• technical report writing;
• time management;
• computer literacy.
